It's going to be extremely easy to boycott this. Early round crowds suggest many clubs are two thirds of the way there.

the irony that fl clubs in the past have been fined for not using "regular" 1st teamers in this competition and now this... FL clubs should boycott it

Full agree.
All L1 and L2 clubs should totally boycott it. Everything is geared around money rich Premiership. STINKS.

If you look at this link there's a bit about AFC Wimbledon selling Kingsmeadow, the ground that originally belonged to Kingstonian to Chelsea, so they can move back to Plough Lane.
Anything in common with the Franchise then?
Just wondered.

I spotted this the other day and noticed it'd gone under the radar somewhat. AFC moved in, then took over before eventually flogging it to move on leaving the original owners homeless but they're going to make a donation to them to find a new home...big of them!

£1M apparently. That's the sum the PL has 'donated' (bribed) to the League for the JPT trophy, with bonuses going to game winners.
You can guarantee we will soon be seeing the same kind of obsequious words coming from the lower league clubs as they accept B teams into the pyramid system in return for more scraps from the top table.

What happens if for example we draw Man Utd away? Are they going to open up Old Trafford for an U21 team match when they're only going to get a sprinkling of support or do we get to watch the match at a borrowed ground like Gigg Lane or even worse we get to watch it at their training ground? I'm sure their not going to take it seriously enough to open their grounds.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

A 3k crowd in Old Trafford would be pointless. Can't see it happening.

Which is the point being made. Their not going to take it serious at all so it just degrades the whole competition.
I'm sick & tired of how the premiership teams are always trying to look after themselves, make more money rather than enjoy the sport. And the people we have running our clubs just bend over and pull their keks down for them just to make it easier.
It's pathetic.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

Don't know how up to date the info is but just googled Man U reserve matches and most were played at Hyde, watched for free by about 600 ST holders. Maybe JPT games would be same?

If the matches get boycotted it might stop the B team plan being put in place. Well I suppose in reality it wouldn't but it would certainly be a barometer of how supporters feel about it.

What will happen if (God forbid) that we end up with a scenario of Man City U21 v Chelsea U21 final? Are they going to open up Wembley and charge what they charged us for tickets? Would premiership supporters stump up for an U21 match?
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

I have a horrible feeling many will turn up to see Manure U21

Not only is the apperance of academy teams obscene, the structure of the competion is a complete farce

The only hope to bury the longer term aim is to sign that online petition scaring off any potential sponsers and not attend the matches

The odds are on these matches being played where the PL clubs play their reserve matches

Edit just seen CPS post where he says main grounds must be used

Was that one of the sweetners to bring the FL clubs onboard I wonder?

Following the decision yesterday at the EFL AGM that will see Premier League Academy teams invited to enter the ‘EFL Trophy’ (more recently the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy) for season 2016-17, the PST wishes to advise its members that we strongly opposed this change.

Our views were shared with Portsmouth Football Club and CEO Mark Catlin voted against the proposal. Unfortunately other teams did not share our view and the proposal was approved.

CEO Mark Catlin, said - “A number of clubs, including myself representing Portsmouth FC, argued strongly against the introduction of 16 X Cat 1 (Academy) Premier League clubs entering the EFL Trophy. After this debate a vote was held where a simple majority of L1 and L2 clubs was required for a one year pilot to take place. Despite ourselves and a number of other clubs voting against the proposals the majority voted in favour."

PST Chairman Ashley Brown feels the decision could have longer term consequences. He said “The immediate impact of the decision might not appear to be too disruptive for Pompey and other League 1 and 2 clubs in the short term. The real concern is what it might invite in the future and the PST will continue to fight to maintain the traditional Football League pyramid system. Keeping the ‘B’ teams out of the newly titled ‘EPL Trophy’ is an important stand to make and I hope it can be reversed after this season”.

The PST will continue to monitor the situation and share its views with the main club board through its 3 representatives – Ashley Brown, John Kimbell and Mark Trapani.

Or the winner gets a Bye into the 3rd round of the FA cup?
