He didn't really have a great game, a decent game but not a great game. And I can't remember many if any great performances, maybe they were in away games

He did have a great game. Yes one glaring mistake but we survived. He’s intelligent and very had working. Best central midfielder we’ve got by a mile and he would get in most teams in this League. Today Shez played his best formation and his best players. He needs to stick with it.

Ironically with the exception of Mandeville & Coddington last season's team

Amazingly the ref’s assessor when challenged after the game informed us that he didn’t need to see a video the Rowley trip was a pen.

That's how I saw it.

For what it's worth I had been saying that we needed a second goal and then we might see confidence flood back and even a third.

The ref made sure that didn't happen and seemed to have some eyes shut moments when it came to handball as well.

He wouldn't get in most teams imo. One good game and now he's a great player!! He's usually awful. His passing is usually poor. 2 glaring mistakes yesterday btw which could have cost us goals but he assisted Boden with what looked like a clearance and generally played well.

Just listened to Shez's after match interview and he pretty much confirms what is being said on these boards.

However, he mentioned he thought we should have had a nailed on penalty in the second half. The only one I can think of was when Rowley went down in the box. Can anybody throw any light on Shez's claim?

Considering how brilliant the crowd were today is it not a little disappointing that these boards get behind the team when they win with 3 pages of posts yet when we lose it can get to around 10 pages worth?

Disappointing, perhaps. But not without reason.

Really glad we got our first win. Confidence much needed. But backslapping posts will not be in abundance until we start winning regularly, and well. Plus, people love a good moan. And we've got a few years worth in the bank. Onwards and upwards.

Be thankful for small mercies. Yesterday's ref should have been one Rebecca Welsh and according to the BBC match site was the ref.
Did she throw a "fetlock" before the game?

Was the refs appointment secretary made aware of his error of judgement?

Or did the club fearing potential crowd problems, if things weren't going right suggest her appointment could possibly inflame things?

It doesn't say much for credibility and potential for climbing up the ladder if someone has to be taken of a game for "previous" at this low level.

A few weeks ago you wagged a metaphorical finger at fans for being negative, Dave.

Only for our first ten games to prove their pessimism prophetic.

And now you think we should gush with glee over a single win?

Everyone welcomes the result pal, but as exemplified by the 'Gerrard' thread it'll take much more than three points to solve the problems at Town...

We needed a win no matter how it was achieved

They missed a very good chance hitting the post before we scored but we played more on the front foot particularly in the first half with everyone putting a shift in

They pressed in the second half but that was to be expected but we held on for a vital win

Apart from Coddington and Manderville Sheridan resorted to the players and formation that served him well last season

Lets hope this is the turning point for a climb up the table

Also we have actually won a match so this match thread is only 2 pages long

Funny that

I would also agree with Weston as MOM

He gave the ball away a couple of times but overall he broke up a lot of Torquay attacks

The whole team contributed more individually imo. Boden for instance worked the hardest I've seen for a long time off the ball, his hold up play was exemplary. Rowley although very one paced put tackles in and even won a header or two. Weston a big improvement in his all round involvement, whether playing more central and in a holding role he seemed to be suited more to that than in an attacking midfield position. The big change was the tempo of the passing going forward, Dents though gave us what we've been missing. The knock downs; his control and hold up both troubled Torquay.

Fondon and Dents are totally opposites because of Fondons movement, playing them together could be interesting but Dents has to get his stamina back before that's considered.

Anyway Torquay looked a very good outfit and apparently they did have injuries. Several player took the eye, two speedy wingers causing problems but for me the number 4 was my motm for them.
God I hate this league.

Chris, I don't think I have said "we should gush with glee" have I, that's your interpretation.

What is noticeable is that certain posters queue up with messages of negativity when we lose. Perhaps, this is the "glee" they seek as they can "gloat" in their "I told you so" sort of way. I don't know what floats their boats but I do know I get far more pleasure out of a town "win" than a town "loss" whether that goes against the grain or not.

And, I don't mind posting to say so and here's hoping I can do it more often in future weeks.

You might remember a Town fanzine called 'Tora Tora Tora', Dave.

It was written by ordinary, yet often informed fans who narrated some of the darkest days in our history.

Well, up until recently, anyway.

That meant it was sometimes a difficult read - but pretty much sold out every print run.

On the other hand summat titled 'Far Beyond The Call Of Duty' made an appearance.

It contained twee, almost childish poems, piously pro-establishment opinions suggesting we all doff our caps and tug our forelocks to 'Mr' Norton Lea and claims anyone who didn't agree was a 'moaner', 'whinger' or 'not a true supporter'.

There was never a second edition.

I think you see my point, pal...

I see your point, Chris.

The list of owners remembered by fans with great affection is much much shorter than the list of those disliked for one reason or another.

But, I also know that under Norton Lee we had some good times as well a bad along with a certain semi final that will live with me until the day I day - is there a point there as well, pal.

I know.

But Chris and I like a bit of friendly banter and are able to accept each other's point of view.
