I think he is simply agreeing with me - that the defence includes defensive midfielders and we aint got any, either in CM or wide men like Bocco who understand their defensive duties. Don't really matter who the back 4/5 is.

He never mentioned a defensive midfield just defence and I'm not sure everyone does think the defence is sorted. He just made that up

with regards to the defense, clearly it is not the same with 2 new defensive players signed

one of the issues we had with GCs preferred 3 at the back was that we had no pace at centre half

for all the clubs this system works for they need to have 1 quickish player in the 3

I suspect Wiseman has been signed for this role and will perform the same duties Azpilicueta has for Chelsea this season - Barry appears to be here as a right wing back

We probably do need more defensive cover and a proper left wing back, but it would be nice to see us start strengthening other areas of the pitch asap

Also throw in the fact that we'll have a different keeper as well. None of the numerous keepers used last season are still with us and we'll have either Tommy or Anyon to play this season which should make a difference

won't make a blind bit of difference unless we get better defensive midfielders. Are you suggesting theses newcomers are better than McGinn, Hird and Jones? The only difference will be in the inferior quality of our opponents' attackers.

In theory Jones hasnt been replaced yet so we cant say, none of the new signings are left sided. Still way to early to say if we are better off or not. On paper they look like decent signings and better than what a lot of folk were expecting but you cant make any judgement until they are all in and we see what we have.

Of course midfielders that can defend are important but to say it won't make a blind bit of difference to have better defenders is a bit daft

Whether the newcomers are any better than the ones you mention remain to be seen but lets hope they remain fit. When Mcginn and Jones eventualy came back, they clearly weren't up to speed.

Hopefully Mcginn will be better following a pre season and time to recover from his injury. Rushing him back didnt help.

I would say the defence already seems stronger than last season's!

Regarding the defensive midfielders, Paul Cook's playoff team was so successful due to Morsy and Ryan in those positions. They were brilliant and a world away from our current midfield!

Morsy and Ryan (and others) could keep possssion, our midfield for the last 2 years did the opposite.

There's more than one to help protect the defenders

They were also brilliant at breaking up the opposition's play, which is something I've not see any Town midfielder do much of at all since.
These go to eleven.

The higher the standard the more reliant defenders are on everybody doing their job. One person dozes off it's a goal, no matter how good the defenders are. The defensive contributions of Gardner, Dimaio, Mitchell, Nolan, Gboly were, at times, laughable.

we also had a creative player in Roberts who they looked for when they won the ball.

Can't say I was impressed by his first season with us apart from his goal at Dale.

Most people thought he was ok before his injury, so he should be ok in L2
