Unlike some people, I didn't have you down as someone who pedals rubbish.

I could have sworn you said Chapman was pushing TL for the number 1 shirt. Must have been someone else.
A new hope.

Certainly not me. I'll tell you something nobody seems to be considering though........

We have got a superb young goalie on loan at the moment. So good that a Premiership team paid good money to a Championship team to get him. I seriously wonder whether Eric looks at the situation in training and is considering telling PC that he's not currently selecting his best goalie. Food for thought if we are thinking top 6, in my opinion anyway.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Have you seen the young keeper play? Because not many folk have, seeing as he has yet to play first team football. I should think the manager is looking at the back four first, the back four who despite having three defensive midfielders in front of them on Saturday, still couldn't stop a bit of one touch football on the edge of our area. And who allowed Freddie Sears to turn on a railway turntable and shoot last Tuesday.

Enough of 'keepers, we know who will play tonight.

What I want to know is, if Cook is to go back to the usual formation as he hinted in the RS interview, how will he fit Goburn into the side without dropping Jimmy Ryan?

Nope.
It doesn't change the point though about consistency of the thought process. Folk should maybe be appyling the same logic to the goalie situation as they are to the Johnson situation. In my personal opinion, if we have a top L1 goalkeeper on the books, it's not Tommy - so summat will have to give somewhere if we are to get in the play offs. Not that it's causing me any lack of sleep. Tommy is a good L1 goalie, not a top one.

If he's better than Tommy then they should play him. I've no issue with that.

That's what it's all about. We all want to improve, it's just how we do it we don't always agree on.

Not having read all of this thread, apologies if it's been said already; what bothers me is that Cookie seems to have a propensity to overreact (often at this time of year - check out the similarities in the surge, then dip with last season) and fiddle about with systems/personnel with negative effects. After a last-gasp defeat at the runaway, moneybags league leaders and a draw with a decent, improving Oldham, why criticise and change? On the positive side, last year, he eventually got things back on track...here's hoping for the same this time. I would expect some degree of learning from mistakes, though. And as many have noted, better to lose and entertain than lose and bore (to paraphrase reaction to recent defeat(s)).

To be honest, I think Tommy had a poor start to the season but I think he's found a bit of form. For the past few games I don't think he's put a foot wrong. I think he's even dealt with crosses quite well recently (we all know this is his main weakness).

One thing that annoys/worries me is the goalkeeping coach...if you watch Tommy warming up before a game, the quality of crossing by the coach is poor; they are floated in and sometimes don't even reach Tommy. Likewise, look at the warm up catches at the start on the second half...they are literally side footed to TL; they need to be drilled into him to get him ready for a proper shot in the 46th minute!

Credit to the young GK on loan, he was drilling them into Tommy before the game on Saturday...

I used to be a GK & PE teacher before injury succumbed and i worry that TL doesn't get "fed" quality crosses and catching practice in training...this is doubly worrying as the quality of crossing in league one has significantly improved. I feel like taking my boots and gloves with me to the games and warming up TL myself! I find it really quite depressing to watch; it's like TL is warming himself up...anyone else noticed this? If not, watch the evening...

Compare Carrol - the best keepers performance at our level I've seen for a long time - and Tommy. Height and physicality is the fundamental difference and his limitation, not his ability to catch. A crowded area is a nightmare for keepers but the bigger you are, all other things being equal, the better the chance you've got. Tommy will take crosses all day long, good or bad, under no pressure in practice. The reality is that in a game the keeper will be blocked off, challenged and fouled. I'm sure they try to replicate that in training but they can't make him taller.
