I saw Gary limping quite markedly on Saturday towards his car, so I was a little surprised to hear Cook say in his post match interviews there were no injuries.

Go on then who has the crappest hamstrings, Gary Roberts? Or Jamie ward? Wardys used to go ping if he even thought about running and I can't remember the last time I saw roberts without tape down his legs.

IMO its fascinating how things like this can be almost ruled out of the modern game.
I`d love to hear him explain how hamstrings/muscle injuries can be avoided. I have absolutely no idea at all about all of this stuff and just thought its part of sport

Is this a wind up? A tooth removed?
Come on CPS. A tooth removed? Is this something that could do it? Nerves maybe?
That sounds incredible

I cant remember the details and cant find anything doing a quick google but i seem to remember Houllier doing this as it was something he believed in. Not sure if it made any difference mind you!
**Edit**
Cant find anything specifically about Owen\Hamstring\Tooth out but have found a couple of things such as this from here :-
THE TOOTH
Following a season-and-a-half of teething problems in English football £13.5 million Chelsea winger Florent Malouda finally hit form at the start of the 2009-10 season and later revealed that a trip to the dentist had cured him of his malaise.
The Frenchman finally got to the root of his troubles when he had his wisdom teeth removed, which helped to clear up some lingering niggles and muscle problems.
Since Malouda's wonder cure a number of other footballers have gone under the dentist's knife, including placenta loving Van Persie. "My osteopaths think there may be a connection between my teeth and the muscle injuries I suffer," the Dutchman said.
And its being discussed by some others here with some stuff - http://kerrydalestre...topic/506706/1/
Colin Cameron apparently wore a gumshield to help his posture which in turn helped prevent injuries :-
The 31-year-old missed Wolves' 1-1 draw with Birmingham City at Molineux on Saturday, his stomach-muscle pull potentially linked to his misplacing his gumshield while on international duty with the Scots against Lithuania.
Cameron wears the gumshield to aid his balance and offset the effects of a long-standing pelvic problem.
"There are muscles on one side of my face that tense up and throw me off-balance which causes my pelvis problems."

I think the Owen tooth thing was desperation and was willing to try everything!
Part of a players medicals at some (bigger) clubs is a full dental check.
Similarly all GB Olympic athletes have to pass a dental examination prior to selection.
(I worked at the last Games as physio and were next door to the dentists. We had a steady stream but the dentists had queues 24hrs a day -mainly poorer countries sportsmen who were getting free dental work)!
Owen's (and to an extent Ward's) problems were that they were both rushed back playing without chance to fully rehab- Liverpool and Real Madrid in particular were very poor in looking after him.
Hamstring injuries are caused primarily by fatigue, lack of flexibility , dehydration.
I said before I think on here that unopposed soft tissue injuries are pretty much avoidable in the modern game. This was also said recently by Roberto Martinez (who was a physio in Spain) and Mourhino (which is ironic bearing in mind Costa is currently injured)
Despite its money football is still very much behind other sports in terms of sports science and modern techniques bizarrely.
I spend a lot of my time advising on warm ups and am not a fan of big group warm ups seen a lot nowadays -each individual needs a detailed personally planned one. Gary Roberts is a good case in point here- I put him in the category of a superb 'baller'- the old fashioned footballer-supremely talented but not an 'athlete' like many of the modern players-particularly in the top divisions. His attitude to warm ups seem to be like Pirlo's (google it)! He'd rather it seems be hoofing a ball up and down than preparing physically and mentally for the game (and I speak as a massive fan of his)!
His recent problems are in my opinion as a result of partly this, possibly a pre existing weakness /scar tissue, and partially down to his running biomechanics (he has lack of flexibility in the hips).
He needs time to rest- loads of strengthening (simple to do), loads of manual therapy, loads of flexibility for whole lower body, and re learn how to run/sprint. A very common mistake for footballers is for rehab to get on a bike or rowing machine etc which is the last thing he should do. The clubs new hub gym pool should be used constantly by him.
Jamie is an example of what the EPPP are trying to phase out (ex players given a job for sentiments sake) (Shinner also I guess). The thought being that there are better qualified people out there (often true of course but I have been impressed in last couple of years by Shinner and the conditioning of the players-I think he was hindered in the Sheriidsn era).

A footballer runs differently from a sprinter / rugby player/ road runner etc
how do you determine how he runs then? and what do you mean they run differently, with the ball, stride length etc?

Everyone runs differently and it's not something people often think about- a few tweaks here and there can prove massive in results.
Mo Farah for example changed a couple of things and went from decent to the best in the world
