It's not daft why should the likes of Peterborough sell players for 5 million stop having a small town attitude morsy is our biggest asset as he is turning into a proper midfielder he will only get better.

The problem is we havent yet got PBoros track record of acquiring and developing these little gems. So sell Morsy and Doyle for £1m each and we can then start talking the bigger bucks for Darikwa and Ryan (tongue in cheek comment alert).

We didn't think we'd get what we did for Bowery.

Imagine being Morsy, and your agent says Cardiff are in for you, and I can get you £15,000 a week plus win bonus and goals bonus of £2,000 and a promotion bonus of £500,000. Would you decide to stay in L1 for another 5 months to get experience?

This. A footballer's career is very short, unfortunately for us any player will want to see what he can achieve, and any short cut offered will be taken. Plus of course, he will have far more chance of attracting the eye of Egypt's scouts and playing in the next World Cup.

Lots of thoughts spring to mind, not least that you wouldn't want to stand in the player's way of reaching the highest possible level. My previous thoughts on these stories have always been 'snap their hands off' but a few random thoughts (some may be off-topic)

Morsy is successful because of PC's set-up and the cover he gets playing with Ryan, when one is off-colour the other takes the strain. A new club probably won't play like this, and if he fits into a 4-4-2, more would be expected. Could he manage this? Would he want to?

Is a move from CFC the best thing at the current time? For example, I'd submit that Liam Cooper has actually made an error moving to Leeds and has actually moved 12 months too soon. If Samy is serious about his ambitions, he should seriously consider that the best place for him to further his football education is actually with us. Both Samy and Liam would be better suited to a higher level after a full season with us.

The cost of selling our best players is massive, and key positions should contain a premium. I'd argue that Morsy would be a bigger miss than Doyle but we could get more for Doyle - would I sacrifice Doyle to keep Morsy and add a new forward? Damn right I would.

I'd be interested to see how PC and the club do with the "stage 2" recruitment. By that I mean that over the last 16 months he recruited players who he was aware of, and knew. What is his plan for next generation of players? Does he have players he wants? Are they any good?

Overall, it's good that we've moved on as a club and we are now having these types of conversations.
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

Banks doesn't have the tackling ability, aggression or power to replace morsy.

No, but who has?. They don't go on trees. There has to be compromise, and Banks stood out at Donny.

I may not be popular for saying it but I'd bite someone's hand off for a million for Doyle.

100% would sell Doyle every time over Morsy, and for a lot less too.

The constant scoring has got to stop soon, as has the multitude of penalties we've been getting.
Plus I think it's partly Doyle and partly the midfield being better providers.

And for that reason also worried about Johnson going back to Villa ....

That was overlooked because everybody was too worried about Morsy being out long term.
Banks did a job for us that day, given a run in the team will start spraying them passes about like we know he can do.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

Same here.

Also in agreement with Lusive - losing Morsy would be a far bigger blow than losing Doyle

A new hope.

Football is a continually evolving game and if Morsy and Doyle can better themselves with a move then good luck to to both. They would be replaced and while the team's form might dip initially, in the long term it would hopefully improve us.

unfortunately for us, clubs such as ours very rarely get to sell players for the million pound plus, that we all would hope for, so some of the valuations for morsy on here will for me, be waaay off the mark, especially as the club announced at the start of the season that the only way to boost the budget was to sell players, or words along those lines, that said i would expect a figure in the region of a million for sam, but with an attractive sell on added on to that, and somewhere similar to coopers price plus sell on for doyle.
all we are saying, is give us ...a goal, or 2+

You talk a lot of sense so I will be very respectful in my answer.

However this a serious footballer and 3 million would be an absolute bargain.

Players like him do not come around very often.

He is THAT good mate trust me

Spot on. Morsy with or without Ryan is in a class we have not seen at CFC for a long time. Looking at some fees at QPR, Fulham etc Sam has got to be worth more than 1 million. I know people have said we can replace players but players like Sam do not come around every season. My gut reaction is that Sam will see what this season brings before he makes his mind up. And.... I agree with Bonny if he goes for less than 800k something is wrong!

I think we have to get out of this little old chesterfield mentality if the players are good enough then they come at cost whoever they play for, I don't completely agree with Paul mitchell assessment of Morsy and his lack of goals I think morsy is more in the mould of a player like Gattuso who wins the ball looks after it and does the simple things really well he may improve his scoring rate as he drives forward but any goals scored by our 2 holders are bonus goals, I think morsy does a lot of graft and I cannot see us having such a grip on games if we lost him and he was replaced by banks , I could see banks maybe replacing ryan but not morsy.

It's not all about 'the little old chesterfield mentality' though is it. Whilever we have the level of debts to service that we do then we won't have the best bargaining position. Say we want 2.5 million for him, if Cardiff came in with say 1.7 million paid in full then DA and the board might rule it in our best interest to take it to try and get the debt down. They won't want to run the risk of rejecting it and then Morsy losing form or getting a long term injury and not getting anything near that initial offer.

Peterborough don't have this problem and so can get away with testing clubs patience on their star players
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything!

Whoever replaces morsy IMO needs to be a half decent tackler. Banks unfortunately isn't.
