Sad to hear of the death of Dean Jones today who played Cricket for Australia and was captain of a very good Derbyshire team. Dean was only 59 and died in Mumbai where he has been commentating on the IPL

Remember being at Old Trafford for a one day quarter final, he scored a hundred and nearly won us the game on his own.

I wasn't there that day but it was the saga of the moveable boundary rope apparently with the Lancy Lancy Lancy fans moving the rope back for the Derbyshire innings when they walked on the outfield during the interval between the innings

With victory in sight Neil Fairbrother then reckoned he caught Dean Jones off a skier when Derbyshire fans present said that he was well over the line with the ball in his hands

RIP Dean you also nearly won Derbyshire the County Championship when it was still a one division affair

I also remember a great victory over the touring Australians at derby when we chased down over 350 in a great 4 day match

thank you Dean for some great memories whilest you were playing for Derbyshire we were certainly a team to be feared at the time

I have vague memories about an incident on the boundary and a catch being claimed but the scorecard I saw had Jones unbeaten on 100 so was the fair brother catch not given?

my mistake the Fairbrother catch was given so was the other batsman but Derbyshire just failed to win and that six would have probably swung it in our favour

I do know that at the next county match at derby during the warm up on the first morning Dean Jones had the team hitting the ball in the air towards the boundary and the fielders were shouting ask Fairbrother at the top of their voices when the ball was caught close to the boundary edge

That was obviously what they thought about whether fairbrother cheated or not lol
