not sure what relevance this question has to this thread
Anyway. DA said in the fans forum in July that our budget was top six in the division

Chesterfield FC
@ChesterfieldFC
Dave Allen - "We've gone 130K over budget. We're in the top six in our league as far as spend's concerned."
So who are the others? Fleetwood and Scunny, Mansfield (they clain to have had a £2m budget last season and have about 90 players), Northampton (spent big following play off final last year - didn't spend well!) and probably Portsmouth who, despite their problems still have 16k gates to call upon. The other well supported clubs, Plymouth, Oxford and Brizzle won't be far off either and Sarfend always spend more than their income.
It just shows that spending money doesn't guarantee success!!!
DA knows exactly what the other clubs spend as every club has to submit regular accounts to the FL and info is passed back to the clubs, so if he says we're top six that's where we'll be - if we were any higher he'd have been sure to mention it!

DA said ours was about £1.4 - £1.5 so if we are over budget by 150k we must have splashed out around £1.6 which is very healthy for this division but.....
DA said at the fans forum when we were in the relegation battle that he had underspent and a £2 million playing budget would be allocated if we stayed up. We didn't so that was never put to the test.
The question is, is £1.6 million enough to do anything other than survive in Div 1? Personally I think a couple of hundred thousand (2 players wages) need to be added, but then again its not my money and it will depend on our finances!
I don't think we are long suffering when compared to other clubs our size to be honest and the relegation aside the last 4 years have been great!

The figures are beyond me but imo we could do with 2 good strikers, a CM, LM, LB and possibly RB. Balance against that the loss of at least Richards, Smith and Togwell and the loaning out of AG.

I fully agree with your assessment of whats required but assuming hird, brown and possibly broadhead may be on their way i would say a CH who can also cover RB would be a priority rather than an out and out full back.
2 quality forwards and a left back are absolutely crucial if we are to improve....

80/81 we won the Anglo scottish cup
84/85 we won the 4th division title
play off finalists 91/92
3rd div play off winners 94/95
FA cup semi final 96/97
League 2 winners 2010/11
Football league trophy winners 2011/12
Football league trophy Runers up 2013/14
Thats not bad is it - compared to a lot of clubs at our level thats great.

That is a perfect summing up of my time watching the town.....but i would dearly love to see us have at least one season in the championship before i turn my toes up.
My dad has but a few generations of us havent and i would love us to put that right!

Don't forget the promotion of 2000/1.
Sure there was a stench surrounding Brown, but the fans did nothing wrong.
Infact they were amazing when dealing with the mess he left.

I've been following Town since 89 and it's been a far more interesting roller-coaster than it would have been had fate chucked me in with another club. It's clubs like Villa, Wednesday and in recent years Middlesbrough that really bore the pants off people, but I suppose someone has to.
This 'long-suffering' table is interesting but I can't grasp why (in the 1992-now table after Sky airbrushed football history) Torquay are 85th, Stoke's 86th shows that playing style is not taken into account, and Man U fans, to listen to them, have had it far worse than anyone else, ever, because they are not dominating this season. I even heard one on Talksport claiming that he'd seen plenty of managers come and go at Old Trafford, and he was 18 years old (!)
PS The first Wembley Playoff final was 1990, but I get your point and agree
