In 2016 a good (and now former) friend of mine (not a nutter) started posting photos of those hoolies in France with captured English flags, and when I took him up on it, he claimed that they had only fought English hooligans and everyone had wanted to fight and had a jolly good time doing so. England is seen as the home of hooliganism, which has been glorified by films like Green Street, and to Russian hooligans the English fans are the top target. Recent political events won't have made things any better.
Qatar, I won't watch a single minute of that World Cup as it is built on the blood of slave labour.
As Toddhopper suggested, Putin would not let his World Cup be spoiled by hooligans, after all we are all told he controls everything.
Now with the diplomatic relations so poor and Boris by extension comparing Russia with Nazi Germany (a sure red rag) and May trying to rally Europe against them, I'd give the whole thing a very wide berth.
The government has raised the stakes, the diplomatic staff have been slashed in a XXX for tat process - they should take it to the logical conclusion and seriously pressure the FA to call the whole thing off
From a pure football aspect putting politics and corruption aside - Russia was a valid choice, Qatar was just stupidity

There will still be plenty of tales of woe from those that do go, with the who would have thought it stories. You’d have to be as mad as a box of frogs to go over there

Every male has to do national service, so they are trained soldiers.
Unless their dad bribed a doctor to get them out of it.

Russia just doesn't work like that. The Moscow hoolies will target the trains, etc. Putin will just ignore it or lie about it. They have a primitive idea of national identity and glory which is drummed into them from birth, and Victory Day is their biggest celebration, winning WW2 the only point in their history they can celebrate (take note, Boris). Russia does not act by the same norms the UK and western world do- Putin won't think of a few hooligans as making his showpiece look bad.

They certainly are and it's on their turf; one would have to be crackers to go! That said, and with the risk of being called a moron; I've not heard what firms are going but if they can muster 500 top lads, I think they'll hold their own.
As for winning it lol genuinely laughed at that. We haven't a prayer, and haven't moved on in any way whatsoever since the Iceland debacle.
The middle paragraph is indeed moronic but I agree with the other two.

Didn't they destroy Napoleon's ambitions as well (eventually)
I reckon it will pass off without many issues especially if we're not there - time will tell I suppose

They did, in 1812, and that was in the Tsarist era, which for many is like top flight football before Sky.
This Salisbury poisoning.... murky as it is, I guess it wasn't ordered from Putin but will have been ordered by someone in Russia who thinks they are serving Russia's ends. Plenty of nasty loose cannons in that bureaucracy/military hierarchy.

Absolutely. The Russian psyche is very different from ours. For example they see us as weak because our PM is female; this is the kind of mindset we're dealing with, so I caution anyone who assumes 'western' values or norms will be applied. Any locals beating up British/English fans will not be viewed negatively, more likely lauded for demonstrating the toughness of Russian people.
