Now Jones is out I wonder if either O'Neil or Donahue are up to the task. If either of these can tide us over it would be good and if Drew is actually fit he can come in at RB meaning we have 3 players for 2 full back positions. Oh! And then there is that lad from New Zealand!!!

I've seen a lot of Donohue. I think LB is at the moment as foreign to him as it was with Clucas when he first came. I'm sure people can remember that Sam had a few teething problems there, but he was a very quick learner. Like Sam, Donohue does not give the ball away and he has maybe a bit more aggression about him. Whether he is physicaly up to it is the unknown factor. He has a 12 month contract.
Maguire definitely has aggression, he's calm in possession, and he can pass. I'm not sure though that he has the pace for LB.

The lad from NZ is technically a very good player. He must be fit enough by now and I'm surprised he's not with the squad.

O'Neill was a free transfer (same source).

Did we learn 'owt about O'Neill yesterday?. My impression was that he was steady, but did nowt wrong.

I'd agree with you there. He put a few good crosses in as well. One, I believe, was with his left foot and set up Jones to miss. Defensively, none of the goals were down to him if I recall correctly whilst the first two came from the left side of our defence - first one Ariyibi's was in LB role with Jones way out of position and second one Evatt got caught out in LB role, again where was Jones?

Now Jones is out I wonder if either O'Neil or Donahue are up to the task. As I said above O'Neil did use his left peg yesterday whilst Donahue is left-footed and we really do need to work out if he is worth keeping or releasing as I believe he is on a 6 month contract which is up in January.

O'Neil was easily bypassed on several occasions, a couple of times in tight situations on the goal line when he merely needed to put a foot in the right place.

A full back he ain't.

Chris, O'Neil isn't a full-back in my opinion either. In fact, if our new manager is to tighten up our defence I believe his first two signings need to be a RB and a LB of League 1 standard.

However, we have to get through the month of December unless we can come up with players fully fit, of the right standard, and without a club for theses positions.

So we've got Herd, O'Neil, Talbot, Humphreys, Kiwi & Donahue - so who do we play?

Personally, I'd go with Talbot & O'Neil on whichever side they are happiest with and, whoever it is, we will need to give them as much support as possible and not turn against them if we are to turn round our season.

More importantly he isn't his opinion either. He was actually very dogmatic about it

I agree about O'Neil and Talbot until Jan

And Hird not Herd can have the midfield berth until we have better options

I don't think O'Neill has the pace for a fullback, though in situations like yesterday where a team don't attack his side much he's handy going forward. Has he ever played in central midfield for us? - I can't recall seeing him there and it's not as if we're over-endowed with candidates for the job.

Hird and Herd are slower if anything, so unless one of the reserves steps up to the plate......

As for O'Neil playing in midfield, not very often, Burton and possibly part of a game somewhere

Think Jones has come in for some unfair criticism. A strong part of his game lies in getting forward and it's one we don't want to lose. He's bound to get caught out of position sometime;s but we need players filling in defensively when that is the case.

Like to see O'Neil get a chance next to Morsy, or whoevers there in Jan. He's not a fb, but he should get a chance in midfield when Jones's fit.

It would mean a pat on the back for former employees..im sure he was brought in by dave bentleys youth regime as well as bowery...strange how things turn out.

Tendi only came to us I believe because Notts County finished their youth policy at the time and he came with one of their coaches

What kind of fool of a purchasing club would accept 40% of the fee rather than of the profit? What if a club paid £700k and sold for £500k?

Both have happened in the past so it's not for definite just profit.

Can you give an example of the daft version, other than when a player was signed on a free?

99% certain Rotherham paid less to Villa for Bowery than Villa paid us and we got a cut of that deal.

Thanks for that DV - it's appreciated - as I have not seen any of these lads play.

I just feel that there are opportunities at full-back now and, as it is doubtful we can bring in anybody, is there a chance they could step up to the plate?
