I'm afraid the team we have out there is worse than the one which went down under Sheridan - imo

When you look at the players we brought in - and nearly saved ourselves after a dreadful run.

Frank Moussa David Davis Jimmy Juan Leon Clarke James Hurst Lee Johnson Jonathan Grounds Lester

Most of these, when not injured went on to have a reasonably successful career.

Most if not all of these players would have walked into Saunders team.

I hate to say this but the likes of Herd Wood Novak and arguably E bblake are all coming down in the footballing world - they've had a good career but imo are not right for Chesterfield. Those like Liam O Neil have a big question mark against them.

Drastic times call for drastic measures i'm afraid. If Saunders is unwilling or unable to recruit players of a required standard, given his budget, then he should go.

can't disagree with that, but from the jist of what was said at the AGM, I would put money on nothing changing whatsoever, so don't hold your breath.
The sun shines brightly out of his bottom.

All of the players you mention barring Lester were on loan. None of them played more than 15 games for us.

You are never going to have a settled squad when you are bringing different loan players in all the time.

FWIW I think this side is significantly better than the 2012 team. Even after the last 3 games.

Can anybody find a starting XI from this time in 2012 to compare?

"FWIW I think this side is significantly better than the 2012 team. Even after the last 3 games"
I think you are in a very big minority with that mate.

I think if this conversation had come on the back of 2/3 wins rather than losses that minority might not be as much of a minority.

Very fickle are football fans. Very short memories.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the current set up is good! Just think it is better than the 2012 relegation side.

Midfielder/Forward Mark Allott

Forward Tope Obadeyi

Now tell me our current side isn't better...

Not sure I'd have any of that XI in place of our current XI. Griffiths and Clarke maybe?

I'd take Bowery, Clarke and Griffiths in his pomp from that team.

Seb and Novak are good enough for a top half L1 side, they are not the problem. To state the obvious the big problem is in midfield, especially since we lost Martinez. The other midfielder we signed isnt deemed worthy of a start by the guy who signed him a few months ago.

Not sure about Novak/Blake - they are two similar and don't play well/complement each at all. Blake was shocking last night, as was Novak

You're quite right - the supply chain is broken. Might not be so bad if the midfield was offering more protection to the defence, but it's failing on both counts.
Basically, Sammy's on his own. The others - no cover for the defence and very little creativity, coupled with Gardner's tendency to lose the ball more than pass it.
And we're now seeing what last season's defence would have been like without Morsy and Ryan in front of them, despite the fact that Evatt is now fitter and more commanding.

But they can do it, their partnership against Southend was good, they complemented each other well

Griffiths was ok in League 2 but not league 1 but thats old ground we dont need to be covering. Clarke you never know what you are going to get so its a gamble whoever signs him at whatever level. Bowery will split opinion on here but i would have him in this current side. Aside from that the defence, Drew aside, and keeper give you nightmares!

I'd forgotten what a wretched side that was. Mind you, I've tried to block out that season completely.
