They're not mutually exclusive I guess.. There could have been interest without a firm offer being tables yet.

I have mixed views... Will Sammys influence on the pitch be worth more to us than the pound notes....

The longer it goes on the more I think CFC think the same and for Morsy to stop in the shop window for January would mean he has to continue to be consistent with his performance. Hence the make an offer over £1m and we'll talk otherwise comeback later.

Sean Taylor seems to think he'll probably be staying and Biggs seems to be going that way as well now.....

Looking extremely likely Sam Morsy will remain @ChesterfieldFC. One club who were planning a move have today looked elsewhere #spireites

Not 100% sure but a few tweets in response to that one from Taylor suggest Port Vale have a sell on clause as well .

He was under 24 so Vale entitled to compensation from us for him leaving. It was the only reason they offered him a new contract...knew he wouldnt sign it but made sure they got something from us for it. Not sure if we agreed something or it went to a tribunal though.

Sounds like there's no sell-on then

If it went to a tribunal that i think it would be pretty much nailed on there is a sell on of some sort....they have a history of going for next to nowt up front but putting a sell on in.

Anyone know how much we ended up paying?

My mate who is a Brighton fan says they had a bid for Dale Stephens from Derby for £2.5m but they turned it down. If they had sold then they could have been in for Samy but not looking likely now.

Only references i can find in a quick search are to the clubs agreeing an undisclosed fee.

Alan Biggs
Confirming that Sam Morsy IS staying at Chesterfield. Only a sizeable bid would have tempted. No new deal, though, so swings & roundabouts.

Don't know if compensation can include a sell-on. Compensation normally means full and final redress/settlement but may be different in football.

It will just be the term used in Football....sell on clauses are practically the norm in tribunal deals although as i mentioned possibly on another thread it would appear from some bits i found on the web the clubs agreed a deal for "an undisclosed fee" when we signed Morsy so i doubt its out in the public domain as to whether there is a sell on or not. I wouldnt be surprised if there is to be honest.
