Tongue in cheek: I think I know how we got here then.
DA (bursting through the door):
What's Watts on
CT: X plus £10k.
DA: What?!! We are going to pay our restaurant manager only X less £10k at Owlerton.
CT: But Watts is Events Manager also
DA: Give over, we don't need one of those. Show him the door and advertise for a restaurant/catering manager.
CT: What about his employment rights.
DA: it's never stopped us before.

Perhaps he's been unjustly/justly* blamed for this?

Isn't that side of the business supposedly the only one actually turning a profit of any sort?

We know how tenuous the grasp on figures is for some though.

from the complaints, it does seem as though returns aren't being maximised. I don't know Paul and I have no idea whether concourse stocking is part of his job description.

Maybe the need for an events manager, employed by the club, isn't there any more?

The club appear to be actively moving away from booking events like sporting dinners themselves, preferring to act as intermediaries for organisations like local youth football clubs to take the responsibility and just offer the venue and make the bookings on their behalf (presumably to minimise risk and take a booking fee on top) (as with the Norman Whiteside and Kevin Keegan planned events)

Any such definition of roles would make splitting (selling off?) the hospitality business away from the football club much easier, if that is DA's plan.

Just based on the concerts alone that seemed a good way to go....the Elton John one where we got a flat fee for renting the stadium plus takings from refreshments i think it was went far better than when we tried to do it all for Tom Jones\Party at the Proact. Whilst the returns may not quite be as good the risk is lower and less work having to market, sell etc everything.

When you think about the changes DA spoke about to the Chesterfield Post after the AGM, the timing of Paul's decision is odd to say the least.

Tongue in cheek, I reckon that I have found his next role.

It says they are looking fro someone with a genuine interest in food and drink. I suspect half of Sheffield will apply lol

Someone who knows Paul has just posted on Facebook that it was a decision made by Paul to spend more time with his family (after speaking to him today)

Seems more nonsense rumours from people making stuff up on here about possible reasons for people leaving

A cynic might say that quote adds fuel to the 'rumours'.
Isn't it what say an MP would say when he has fallen out with his party leaders, and he has no option but to resign?

I have known watty for a few years and always have a quick chat when we bump into each other at the ground. I know he was working lots and lots of hours at the club (not sure if he got overtime) and that takes its toll on your domestics if you have a family!

He is a really hard working lad who loves the club and he always did his best to make sure the events I've attended ran smoothly so I for one am sorry to see him go.....and bang goes my extra bit of pie when I'm at a corporate do!!!!!

I spoke to Watty at length yesterday and he said that as he doesn't post on here he was happy for me to express his views.

Watty has been working 60 hour weeks, he hasn't had a Christmas Day or New Year's Eve with his family in 7 years and he needs a break from this whilst he decides on his longer term future.

He leaves the club on the best possible terms and the business 'upstairs", as he calls it, has never been better.
