Again we see yet more dithering over Greece, amid more fears of a Greek default on loan payments. As it has done for the last 2 years+ - most likely leading to no action anywhere, with Greece (and the wider euro zone) continuing to just muddle through.

They were too slow on interest rate cuts, were far too slow, and no where near aggressive enough when it came to implementing a programme of quantatitive easing to put money into the system.

The EU central bank is without leadership and has its head in the sand regarding levels of debt, investment and economic stimulusAnd you would love to join that chaos?

the sooner we leave this rediculous political project the better

It isn't the project, it is the members and a complete lack of vetting and rules.

Question - what is the only country to meet the original entry criteria for the EEC?

Clue - you're standing in it.

Even the Germans changed their tax policy to meet entry criteria.

The Mediterranean countries simply don't have the wherewithal to match northern states fiscal policy.

And you can add to that the internal audit. It's written that if if the EU were to fail an audit (intended to stop corruption) that the E U parliament would be suspended.

So, what do they do? Well they simply haven't had an audit for 19 years........it's the FIFA of the political world.

And people want to join this corrupt, undemocratic, self seving political entity that's blundering from one economic crisis to another?

The lunatics are truly running the asylum.
A new hope.

Personally I am for a group trade agreement and common policies on things like agriculture, fishing, energy and even economic policy if it is amongst like minded States.

However this model simply doesn't work.

Well Greece is slowly sliding into the economic abyss while Europe fiddles....in the mean time markets give their verdict by falling share prices, rises in the £-€ and $-€ the euro is in fact sliding against most currencies - the interest charged on Italian, Spanish and Portuguese bonds rises. Portugal is now paying around 3.3% gradually creeping upwards, as Greece did until it becomes unsustainable.

We don't want to be anywhere near this disaster, never mind join it.
A new hope.

So, Italy are threatening to give EU passports to these knife wielding African Illegals unless the UK take their fair share?

Then of course under EU law they'd be European citizens like the rest of us.

It's madness.

No question for me now. Cameron sails on and tells the people what they think they want to hear, whereas Nigel Farage had an article in yesterday's Daily Mail, of all papers, especially after their pretty libelous campaign against him throughout the run up to the GE...

He said what most of us (I'd hope so anyway) are thinking. Shut our borders, adopt the Australian approach, and keep our great country safe from what we know is coming if we don't act now.

Let's be self governed, not part of a greater Europe, that wants to tell us what to do.

OUT!!

and share the economic disaster that's engulfed Greece, and will eventually consume Portugal, Spain, possibly even Italy.

Time to go. get this referendum out of the way and leave the EU...You would have be insane to want to be a part of it.

To be fair, the UK has had a very similar policy since the late 90s. Illegals apply for asylum when they are detected. Most bring themselves to notice in order to qualify for benefits. Either they are granted asylum or, if not, they are allowed to remain "exceptionally" (this despite our authoritaries having no clue as to their real identity, nationality or possible criminal/terrorist history). They then complete 4 years residence, after which they can apply for UK citizenship via the box-ticking Citizenship Test. They then get a UK passport - in the identity used in the asylum claim made with no supporting documentary evidence.

So a couple of hours to wait, and then we will see.......more dithering and indecision. 5 years this has been running, and still the EU doesn't know what do.

A new hope.

Looking more and more likely a an exit for the Greeks. They are saying now that why should the Greeks be given preferential treatment if they won't meet economic reforms.......fair comment, except that the EU itself hasn't had an internal audit for 19 yrs. if the EU can't even audit itself what right does it have to impose terms on a nation state?
A new hope.
