Are you really that short of a drinking partner?

Whatever you think of cook and how he left, in footballing terms it seems he is currently underachieving at Portsmouth, on a very generous budget.
Also it's interesting that my Portsmouth supporting friends keep banging on about the same things no plan B and his team can't defend set pieces.
Maybe Cook will come good down there or move on and have success elsewhere, or maybe his time here was his perfect storm where everything came together for him, time will tell I suppose.

It is amazing to read that message board and see the similarity with ours after we had a few bad results.

Of course the size of club and their expectations couple with his reputation and track record meant they were expecting a stroll in the park which amplifies the criticism somewhat

I don't know why he allows himself to get so mardy with reporters. All very silly.

A manager is only successful if he's recruited the righr players. Cookie is very blinkered and only recruits the same players again and again EG Roberts, Doyle, Lavery, Boco etc. His success with us came because of Mitch's eye for a player. He tried to take Mitch with him and that failure will result in his downfall.

Unfortunately, Mitch hasn't had the same success this year!

Saunders bought in his own choices of experienced has beens. Now he's gone we seem to be going back to recruiting the rough diamond.

So what? The simple fact is that he got it spot on, on the pitch and that's all that matters.

So what?
He didn't get it spot on every week. He got it spot on some weeks and now we are paying the price for the spend of doing so.
He didn't have CFCs best interests for the last few months
He was already thinking of taking our players to pompey. Roberts/Ryan/Morsy. No interest in sorting out contracts

Well his remit seems to be 'Pick up young talent for nothing'; so I'd suggest his job has become somewhat more difficult.

The price for the spend? Give over. Allen and Turner decide the budget. Paul Cook may request more and if he gets it, it's provided by Turner or Allen. As for contracts, it is Turner's role to say "hold on Paul, why aren't we offering these lot deals?" and step in himself if he thinks something is awry. He didn't, hence showing how out of his depth he is.

Didn't he suggest Callum Chettle only for Saunders to ignore him?

Interesting snippet from Evatt during Player commentary yesterday to the effect that PC didn't work on attacking free-kicks in training, but that had all changed when DS took over. I appreciate that we had lots of other strings to our bow under PC, but I'm not sure why any manager would neglect free-kicks, especially when some of our players were so adept at winning them around the opposition's box.

It was one of the things that people remarked on when DS came. Not that I'd claim a lot of credit for DS, just negligence on Cookie's part. Surely every manager should work hard on dead ball tactics.
Speaking of which, we seem to be going back to where we were with them. Some horrors yesterday.

And, turning it round, if he doesn't get it he lets people know and we go into meltdown about DA and CT not giving Cookie the money so he had to leave.
Two sides to every argument, even if none of us know any details. For my money, Cookie wanted a lot spending and got it. Blame who you like for that, but I didn't hear anybody cribbing at the time.

Yep, that may well be the case. It's up to Turner/Allen to balance risk and reward.

Thought Chettle was suggested during PC's reign. Anyway, didn't he eventually go for a fee?

No idea to be honest...I just thought it was doing the rounds on here earlier this season that Mitch was pushing him as a signing and Saunders didn't go for it.

I'm not sure if the player was Chettle. But at the AGM, shareholders were informed that the club were in the process of signing a player for a fee. The player was described as being one for the future.
