It's a hell of a difference between sitting around playing with an Ipad, saying "that shouldn't have happened", and appearing to know a little more than a sky sports subscriber...
So the next time he, or any other pundit says "you can't defend like that against Suarez" or something similar, wait to see if they offer the solution among the banality and cliche. And when they don't, you realise why the comfy seat in the studio is such a good option for them...

Yep it's bad and I hate that. Been some calls for players to actually do an extended version of the courses rather than fast-tracked.
Because they have so many bad habits picked up over the years ingrained in them.
I did my Eufa B with manly ex or current pros (at the time) -many were so bad at actually leading a session and even a basic warm up without terrible nerves or blanking.

It's so easy to examine what has been, rather than what is to come.....easy money for ex professionals like Neville; maybe he should have done a stint at Salford before a La Primera Liga club....

My thoughts entirely, Merc. You know how it works, though; leave 'em under the table for a year or so, let time pass, then out they pop like nothing ever happened. Seems to be the format for most things that have some form of media attention/coverage....political, celebrity, sports, etc

Yes I know what you mean, but a lot of the Soccer Saturday pundits, although some are failed managers, they only really offer asides to the games they watch. The likes of Carragher, RedKnapp, Henry and formally Neville actually disect and pull teams tactics, moves and selections etc to bits. Be interesting to,see what happens in the short term, oh and let's not forget this bloke is actually England assistant manager to boot...you couldn't make it up, could you?

Seen it myself, also. I was even asked by some to do their session plans and give a nod when it was appropriate to intervene. And yet they still get the gig when a job beomes available. Playing intelligence rarely transfers to coaching intelligence (bar Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Ancelotti).

I think there's some that will always see themselves as "never going to manage at Salford's level, so no point putting in the hours with them" and to an extent I can agree with it. He's had a career in the premier league and only worked at elite level with top players around him. But, he's no experience of coaching or shadowing top coaches on a daily basis.
Guys like Tim Lees, who's been academy director at a couple of large(ish) clubs, should be either offered a promotion or go banging on the door to get it. There's a growing number of "up-and-coming-coaches" (age being irrelevant) who are changing the game at youth level, but need to break the glass ceiling. The sad thing is, that football being the bubble-world it is, they'll be very lucky to make it through. And even if they did, there'd be the inevitable undermining from the press as they "haven't played top flight" despite it not being a guarantee of anything.
