Lee - 7 couple of good saves first half. Not sure what happened with the goal, he seemed unsighted and didn't dive for it. Not much to do second half but calm and assured. Looks better on crosses this season

Jones - 7 steady defensively. Not as attacking as he could be. Wasn't overly tested. Quick!

Raglan - 7 calm under pressure. Decent in the air. Distribution not great.

Evatt - 7 didn't miss a header. Some good blocks. Booked for a rash tackle.

O'Neil - 5 never ever a full back. Given a torrid time for the first hour. His man got past him to easily for the goal. Settled later on. Booked.

JOS - 7 touches of class at times. Could have had a hatrick. Worked his socks off.

Herd - 6 did OK. Looked to be getting fitter. Battled hard and decent distribution. Booked for a stupid tackle. Worth persevering g with.

Morsy - 8 Not his best game in a Chesterfield shirt but comfortably the best player on the pitch. MOM

Gardner - 7 2 goals but! He frustrates the life out of you. So wasteful at times. Slows the play down way to much to. First goal a simple finish second a good volley into the ground up into the top corner.

Simons-7 offers very little defensively and won't win anything in the air but pacy, tricky and has a good touch. Started really well but faded after getting clattered first half.

Mani - 7 he's takin some stick on here and rightly so for the two reds but today he did really well. Constant trouble for their back 4. Won his fair share in the air and nearly scored. Ran his knackers off and got sod all from the ref. Well played kid.

Subs

Hird - 7 came on for Herd alongside Morsy and really settled things down. Good substitution.

Talbot - 6 not a deal going forward but helped Oneil out on the right.

Armand - 5 not sure he touched the ball more than two or three times

Make no mistake, Crewe were poor but 2:1 flattered them. I don't remember them having a clear chance second half and we should have won by more. Credit to DS. He picked a very different side and it paid off. They could have folded after the equaliser as Crewe were well on top but we weathered the storm and deserved the win. We tried to play football but also went long at times with Mani up there. He seems a better option than SEB when we go direct.

A final thing, ' How s**t must you be? We're winning away' I don't imagine to be the most encouraging song for fans to sing. Embarrassing to be honest.

Excellent summary for me especially on O'Neil and Morsy. The latter whilst not at his best was head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch. In terms of impact on a game he is ahead of all the players that we sold. Crewe will go down. Sam Hird should never be left out of this team.

O'Neil doesn't think he's a full back & nothing I've seen suggests he's anything other than filling in there.

Can I assume Herd was in a central midfield two in a 4-4-2?

I agree with all that and herd with some games looks a tackler and worked his socks off and the most ironic thing for the match was when on 90 the ref finally gave us a free kick as their no.5 had pulled and tugged at .desi all afternoon thevtowns fans cheered liked we had just scored

It could be a number of games before we see the new signings come into their own. Good that DS was brave enough to give Rai and mani a chance. I wonder if Onovwigun and Donohoe might also get a chance to play.

So drew went into RM? I assumed he had gone RB and O'Neil into midfield.

Trouble is Sam and Evo as a pairing dont really work due to each others lack of pace and in Sams case lack of inches

Fine seperatly or different partner but with DS footy not much pace in the side etc that pairing doesnt work

 Half expected Mani to give their No5 his shirt when he was subbed. After all he tried to rip it off his back all the game.

Pleased to hear that we had a striker putting himself about. I didn't see the game but I would question whether AG would have been the same problem for their defence.

Yeah that's what happened. I assumed like you Drew would go to full back but O'Neil stayed there.

A fairly accurate summary.
Herd played better in front of the back 4 but always looked like he was ready to break down after every tackle or sharp turn.
we need to take our chances better to help build confidence. crewe look odds on for relegation and shot of confidence.

I thought the same with Herd and the reaction to each little knock. I suppose it's understandable given his injury problems that every little twinge results in an..oh no, not again..in his head, but he did well.

If Mani played as well as it sounds, surely he has to keep his place, this is one of those situations of his been given his chance to win his place and he keeps the shirt now??? as for Onovwigun or Donohoe i'd be highly tempted to play at least one of them at Rochdale Tuesday, we have to play so many of todays starters, personally i'd rest Morsy for this one, possibly Tommy too...

My ratings, for what it's worth.

Lee - 7 - Couple of good saves first half, confident on crosses throughout. I wondered whether the Crewe goal took a deflection as he seemed wrong footed.
Jones - 6 - Solid at the back and got forward when he could but to little effect with some disappointing crosses.
Evatt - 7 - Our defensive lynchpin turned in another assured performance featuring some superb blocks.
Raglan - 7 - Great in the air, combined well with Evo.
O'Neil - 6 - Battled against a tricky opponent in Colclough but his lack of pace was exposed consistently.
Morsy - 7 - Not his best game i thought, gave the ball away a couple of times but was always around to win it back.
Herd - 7 - Played centre mid and looked better for it. Some intelligent passing demonstrated.
Simons - 6 - Great first half and helped set up the first goal but faded pretty badly as his lack of first team exposure showed. Definitely got something though.
Gardner - 7 - Seemed to have limited influence on our attacking apart from being in the right place at the right time for both goals, however his defensive contribution seemed much improved.
O'Shea - 7 - Our best player i thought, busy and threatening when he was given the ball. We still saw his tendency to go missing for periods of the game though.
Dieseruvwe - 6 - Decent effort from the big lad but he hardly ever won a header. Still, good to see him play with a bit more nous and cause a problem for his opponent who resorted to shirt grabbing 90% of the time.

A weird game really, i said it looked like it had nil nil written all over it seconds before we scored. We've played better and lost, so there's probably more questions than answers now. I suppose the most pleasing aspect was that we battled throughout, but at no point did we look particularly convincing against an evidently weak side.
The greatest miscarriage of justice since my case against the producers of the Never Ending Story

I meant Sam is good enough and has the attitude to be included in the XI. We haven't got enough good players to exclude him. Raglan should definite be given a run. Evo excellent again.

First time I've ever seen Gardner accused of slowing the play down. He normally plays like someone holding down R2 on FIFA.
