First time I've ever seen Gardner accused of slowing the play down. He normally plays like someone holding down R2 on FIFA.

There was two or three times in the second half when we broke down the left with him 3 on 3/4 and once he got past the halfway line he virtually stopped and went backwards or sideways. That would be my biggest criticism of yesterday that we didn't kill them off although after recent weeks I can understand us being cautious.

He's very much a head-down player. If he wants to find a pass he has to slow down and look around, which he's obviously been told to do but it slows the attack down. If he tries to pass on the run it's generally to the opposition.
But I'm sure it's being worked on in training - he's definitely improved this season, and he was tracking back a lot better. Needs to learn to tackle as well though.

...I thought that run and cross against Burton was the best bit of individual wing play at the Proact since Dean Morgan's finest hour. On top of that, he's 2 footed. There's a very good player in there.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

I hope you're right. DS obviously thinks he's worth persisting with. Me, I'm not quite convinced as yet.
