Just to clarify the situation, if anyone is not aware, DIM has a twisted view of Sam Hird and scours the highlights looking for ways to diss him. He has, regrettably, taken the baton from 'H' in that regard.

That would certainly explain his ludicrously unbalanced remarks.

The thing is, it's the defence that is the problem. They can't keep us in it on the occasions when our forrads are neutralised. It seems logical to me that if the combined talents of Jayo, Gardner, and Gboly can only muster a single chance between them in 90 minutes, then SEB isn't going to fare much different. Despite that, we had enough chances to win if the defence had been able to keep a clean sheet.

Once again, the highlights are a horror show down our right, where Drew and Gboly are exposed at will; and at CH where Hird had a very poor day.

Nothing to do with them ghosting through midfield, easing past the static full back as if he wasn't there at all, it's all Sam Hirds fault. A very very strange assessment of the second goal yesterday that's for sure.

It's been going on since last season now, pretty much since H called time on his crusade against Hird. Fans love their scapegoats.

I will tell you what hirds positioning for the 2nd is disgusting, talbot with no support gets caught in a 2v1 situation as the big lad makes his run ,hird is the support player he gets his body square on running backwards facing the wrong way he has to turn 180 degrees to get back its day 1 week 1 basic defending he got his body wrong and was exposed for pace to cut out the run..people will blame talbot but positionaly he was ok.

ha ha.
were it not for the fact that I'm a big Sam Hird fan.

This from the man who dismisses video evidence as an analytical tool. Very balanced.

not this time. Watch the highlights, which provide evidence of all the best Burton chances. Now admittedly they don't provide evidence of how Sam played when Burton weren't a danger, which you might like to mark him on, but hey ho.

Bonnyman is quite right. For the second goal Hird should have run on the diagonal to engage the scorer, forcing him either to beat him or to shoot from further out.

The first goal is quite simply caused by a Hird miss kick - a panicky duffed clearance.

They are the least problem. It's those in front of them. We had one midfield player yesterday - Morsy - and little or no contribution in this area from O'Neil (rehearsing for a film role as The Invisible Man?) O'Shea, Gardner and Ariyibi.

My defence includes my defensive midfielders. I got taught it at school. The first priority if you want to be a CM is to be able to defend.

If you watch the highlights look whose hollywood ball from right to left puts burton on the attack at the end of the first half highlights, if it was not for their number ten being doggers it would have been a goal we gave the ball away too much.

Ah, I see, you are now including the defensive role of the midfield. Good to hear it's not just Sam Hird at fault then. Some argue that you defend from the front, in case you are planning to include further options. Gardner and Ariyibi have defensive responsibilities whether they like it or not.

What you have witnessed is a team lacking the nouse of Sam Hird. Falling that far back in disarray wasn't the manager's tactic, it was indiscipline. What concerns me is the Evo didn't take charge and bang a few heads together

Just to clarify again, I think Sam Hird is a good player, but not a top 6 L1 player.

I would agree, he is a very average L1 player. Without trawling the forum I still reckon you have been very critical of him for some time.

I always have. You, on the other hand, exclude the defensive role of our central defence.

That's your prerogative. It just happens to be wrong.

have you watched the highlights?. If you have and you still feel he played well, then if I was being very rude, I'd say it's you that has the twisted view.

For the record the first goal was down to......Evatt's poor header from the keeper's kick, then being out of position, a poor header from Jones, a poor kick from Hird and a poor effort at keeping the shot out by Evatt.
