Town is still a decent night out, it however isn't a patch on what it used to be back in the eighties and nineties when I was in my prime. The young guns these days weren't around then so they don't know what they have missed.
My first pint in Town was back in 86 in the Manhattan, I was 16 at the time wearing a pink Lacoste T-Shirt, that was a bum clenching experience.

Town is not a patch on what it was back then...the pubs in town now, were shops back then....like you say the top end of town was heaving...infact if you wasnt out for 6 - 7 pm you were lightweight...now if you in town before 10pm most places are empty..if they have opened.....late nite licences have a lot to answer for.....
all we are saying, is give us ...a goal, or 2+

All pubs are good pubs in my view as they serve booze...........but atmosphere wise the 80's definitely had better pubs....

I was younger and it was my era and on reflection they didn't have Goku slaying Syrians, so maybe they could have been crap.... or maybe the kyupnik (sic) in the polish club could have messed up my mind and maybe that explains a lot but...

No the 80s were better.....

Yes we used to call in for a krupnik. In the room behind the bar there were sometimes nuns!

They've got some cheek based on experience last night....over in Barnsley for some darts thing at the metrodome and we were back in the town centre just before 11. Hotel bar wouldn't serve as they were shutting as were two other bars including the walkabout. Took us ages to find somewhere that was open and when we did it was dead!

Perhaps this is one of those instances whereby the accuser should try and visualise what the accused is seeing

A pub full of customers he should welcome? It's not necessarily me that's the accuser - I avoid the place personally.

I'll be in the Chesterfield Arms shortly to warm up for the John Power gig. Should be some decent lubrication in there or the barn for definite.

What did you think to the gig last night?

Thought he was quality.

Instead of being cryptic why not say something?

Your notion of cryptic is a little flawed

The comment contained a hint of sarcasm. Sarcasm aimed at a silly question

what's the one round the corner from the Derby Tup called Beer House? did that uses to be the Vic? or was that on the next street

Beer Parlour. Used to be a gun shop iirc.

The Vic's a house (two houses?) now.

Answer the question then.

Without a doubt town used to be a great night out , the late licensing killed the place it used to feel terrible that on a sunday pubs shut at 10.30 but town was packed and was a very social place , bank holiday sunday was a great night with everybody looking forward to a half hour extension and then the brad opened and everybody poured down there till i think 12.30.Bring back early closing imo we are not a breed designed for late night drinking its just brought an underbelly of scum into town.
ITS NOT THE WINNING,ITS THE TAKING APART
