Good pubs in tahn off top of me head

Chandlers
White Swan
S41 (rubbish name)
Rutland
Royal Oak
Market
Portland
Spa Lane Vaults
Spread Eagle
Barrow Boy/Joplins
Welbeck -not changed since the 70s, I kind of like that
Blue Bell
Kings head what is it called now? Vic?
Seven Sevens
County
Fleece
Chesterfield Arms

Scrubbed out the crap pubs! ;) Left Spread Eagle in as not sure either way as its that long since i've been in! If what you think is now the Victoria is the one i think it is then it was god awful when i went in for a pint one night earlier in the year before heading to the Japanese place. They'd got dirt cheap ale on that was god awful but had attracted the usual sort that are attracted by the fact its cheap not nice! Spa Lane is ok and far better than Portland but the ale can be hit and miss depending on how lucky you are with the Wetherspoons buying policy! There are a few you listed that i cannot believe you classed as good!

The welbeck is ok if you dribble down your chin and still think a bkack and yellow plastic netto carrier bag is a fashion item.

Bkack is very fashionable this season :windup

Town is still a decent night out, it however isn't a patch on what it used to be back in the eighties and nineties when I was in my prime. The young guns these days weren't around then so they don't know what they have missed.
My first pint in Town was back in 86 in the Manhattan, I was 16 at the time wearing a pink Lacoste T-Shirt, that was a bum clenching experience.

Suspect, like someone already posted, i'm comparing it to when i was round town on a regular basis mid to late 90s and early 2000s when it was far busier. My now far less frequent trips into town are rather more dull experiences i suspect mainly down to the fact it seems to be dead most of the time which probably doesnt help some of the bars although some of them are really bad places now.

Was pleasantly surprised the other night that some pubs seemed to realise that dropping the prices attracts more people, hopefully this new PubCo ruling means cheaper drinks. Yes it is a bit dead, my first drink was in The Buck very early 80s. Pity what happened to it, I'm happy most places that dont play doink doink dance music at "industrial deafness" volumes

Yeah, 'The Buck', circa '80/81.

Home of loadsa punks, skins, heavies, infact most of the 'tribes' (© The New Musical Express et al) of Town.

Fantastic pre-video Duke Box (younger forumites ask your folks).

I'll be in the Chesterfield Arms shortly to warm up for the John Power gig. Should be some decent lubrication in there or the barn for definite.

The Derby Tup would be much improved with a landlord who cracked a smile every now and again. He's a right misery and the beer is never as good as I'd expect.
