Funny thing happened the other day.

Local kids tend to congregate and play the other side of my garden fence, including some from East European families who've moved into the area.

Anyway, I noticed how these East European kids will talk in their own language amongst themselves but switch to English as soon as indigenous youngsters turn up. But then, almost unbelievably, I coulda sworn I heard a couple of the indigenous ones actually speaking a few words in Polish (I guess) back to them - and naturally, effortlessly, without appearing to really think about it.

A glimpse of the future? A Britain where our culture continues to adapt and evolve as it's done throughout centuries of migration?

Hmmm...

I'm currently learning the Makaton form of sign language, by watching Mr Tumble on CBeebies.

The last time I went around town the youth of today could barely speak English let alone polish.

One of my work colleagues is polish so picked up a little bit of basic polish. I'm determined to learn a second language one day, although my regular holiday destination is Iceland and there's no way I'll be learning that, not through want of trying but of difficulty.

Why Iceland? I can see the appeal of once or twice maybe but regularly seems a bit weird.
Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

Everyone has their own preferences, that place they like to go to get away from the grind of daily life. Plenty to see and do up there, and the people are some of the friendliest you'll ever meet, and it's not as expensive as its made out to be if you know where to go.
