Dave Whelan resigns, 23yr old grandson takes over............the beginning of the end for them and a return to their natural level beckons.

Expect gates to fall to 5 or 6 thousand, funding to be cut and them to be a lower league side again

A new hope.

Two more decent away fixtures next year with Wigan and Blackpool.

Why? He is still the owner. His grandson is just chairman.

Will be an interesting fire sale when they go down. Much of the squad are ex-Premiership. Unsure how they've got into such a mess!

Hopefully this will be the end of the constant dropping into coverage of how Dave Whelan broke his leg in a cup final any time he is interviewed or mentioned!

Cracking awayday Wigan. Good location for ground, cheap beer, plenty of pubs and all near station.

Be happy to see them down.

What's good about Wigan? The only time I've been there were barely 4000 people in two stands - a pretty miserable experience.

See post 9. Decent drinking away day if on a Saturday. Decent Stadium (if a little bland). Nice pies.

Remember Wigan in the old days Once went there and asked directions the woman we asked didnt know they had a football team. Got directions from a native and ended up at Rugby ground. When we got there we stood on a grass bank which was like a skating ring spent more time trying to stand up than watch the game

I remember going there in the FA cup when they had only been in the league a year or so. We did our usual, got a draw then lost the replay at home

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't we the last team to play at their old gaff?

Edit, 2nd to last game as they made it in to the playoffs and lost to man city over the 2 legs
