Seems a crazy decision to cut off what appears to be our only remaining income stream.

Why not allow the collectors the initiative to make alternative arrangements with subscribers and push alternative methods of payment?

There is also the cost of refunding automated payments

What a crazy decision, why not allow the collectors the initiative to make alternative arrangements with subscribers and push alternative methods of payment !

Can DD members assume that no more payments will be taken, until its resumed?

Agreed, has he thought it through

Are they stopping the collection of direct debits?

I'm told the reasoning is we have around 350 subscribers who pay in cash to collectors each week who the club don't wish to put at risk. It is thought unfair to continue with the lottery if they can't participate.

A good opportunity to tell these people they have use methods more commonly associated with the 21st century.

Exactly, which reduces club costs, although accepting that some will pay out of a sense of loyalty to the collector.

The original article showed they hadn't even considered the subscribers paying by direct debit when making the decision

Very surprised at both of your comments, most of the people I collect from are elderly and some probably wouldn’t want to set up any direct debits or even caught up with the 21st century in fact tomorrow I will be informing all the people I collect from the situation by notes through the door , the old style method

I agree many fall into this bracket and a note through the door is a good idea as many won't see the website message. My concern is about them cancelling the lottery altogether and stopping an income stream.

I expect legally the club can't take money from subscribers via direct debit for something that isn't going to happen as they've cancelled it.
