Looking more and more likely now that either the season will be suspended or played behind closed doors.

Either way I think this will be catastrophic for most clubs outside the PL who rely so much on gate receipts and match day revenue.

Obviously will impact ST holders who will need refunding perhaps? Tricky one for clubs.

Could even impact the takeover perhaps?

I suppose fans attitude towards seeking potential refunds may depend on who the owners are.

What do season ticket Ts & Cs say? I don't suppose early cancellation of the season/games played being closed doors are covered by a specific clause are they?

I suspect the club won't be, and any prospective new owners. Would be a financial nightmare for any clubs below the big leagues sadly.

EDIT - obviously not all about football, bigger picture is the impact it would have on many small businesses

IF (and its a big one) the football authroties do go down the "behind closed doors" route then you would hope that the rules around televised games (3pm sat etc) are lifted and fans can at least watch games live (maybe for a small fee?) with ST holders getting it free?

app prem games will be streamed to season ticket holders homes via a code.
no extra games will be televised by sky/bt to prevent people gathering in pubs

But the 3pm saturday blackout would still apply which is total madness and totally defeats the object, but that's the PL for you. Also sounds like neither the EFL or the NL have any knowledge of the PL plans so are now scrabbling around to see what they will/won't do.

Why not play the remaining fixtures on FIFA or, for traditionalists, let the Pools Panel ajudicate?

It does work but I would've thought one obvious solution is to enable iFollow live streams to work in UK if all games are behind closed doors without the need for a VPN.

When we were in the league, I subscibed to iFollow when I visited NZ, when I moved Aussie for a few weeks it didn't work so I contacted the support and the enabled it within seconds. When I got back to the UK it still worked and did so for the rest of the season. It was obviously a loophole but it could be used to televise all EPL games if the will was there.

Sadly we aren't in the EFL

iFollow already shows midweek games to UK users but they charge more than for international users and 3pms currently only available to international games. As you say shouldnt be difficult to just make it available but its whether the infrastructure is up to thousands in some cases trying to stream it.

I can't remember the exact cost (about the equivent of £40 in NZ dollars for international streaming) but I'd be suprised if it was an issue. However if it was, it would be no different than thousands of people with VPNs trying to connect to their service. It would certainly be an obvious thing for the authorities to look into, so it probaly won't happen!

Not sure we have covered this in our T & Cs but Premier League clubs’ seem to be similar to West Ham’s which say no refunds:
"The Club hereby excludes any liability for any loss, injury, costs, expenses or damage of any kind connected to any failure or delay by the club in carrying out any of its obligations under the Conditions of Issue which is caused by circumstances outside of its reasonable control; and any abandonment, postponement or cancellation of any matches."

or played behind closed doors.

The impact here is the losing of home advantage - and therefore it becomes unfair. If there are no fans then home/away games become almost indifferent ...Even at NL Level at times this season the 3,500 at the Proact have been the "12th Man" and certainly away our support has lifted the team on many occasions too - Away at Chorley last week a prime example, I don't think behind closed doors should be an option. Better no game at all.

the league table suggests otherwise!

after saturday, we'll have equal home and away games left so any advantage gained or lost from not having home or away fans cancels itself out for all teams.

really no point worrying about it.

They could easily pipe in crowd noise over the tannoy, take the audio files from FIFA so they can vary it due to what is happening in the game.

The Premier League can probably afford to have CGI fans at the games.

Can’t see that working with our skills base. We’d probably broadcast boos when we score and cheers when we concede!
